Film still from LA CORTE DE FARAÓN: A musical choreography on a show staircase, the performers in Egyptian costumes.

In order to fulfill a prophecy, the Pharao wants to marry an invincible general to an virginal slave. The young lady already has an admirer, while the relationship between the army leader and his orderly also doesn’t seem to be of an entirely military nature…  In adapting the singspiel classic of the same name (which was banned in Franco’s Spain), Julio Bracho merely retained the basic structure of the Genesis story and a few evergreens rich in ambiguity in order to mix these with art-déco sets and Brechtian alienation effects, with ballet numbers, striptease sequences and Hollywood musical choreographies forming a hysterical hybrid spectacle of unmistakable proto-camp.
